Kinichi Ogata

Biography
1970 Born in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.
1996 Following the acquisition of knowledge and skill in design through self-education, while gaining on-the-job experience in various skills and creating art works, Ogata began his practice as a freelance furniture/interior designer.
1998 Established OGATA Inc. together with his younger brother Hisashi.
2007 Moved their studio in Sendai City to a forest on Mt. Izumigadake outside the city.
2009 Established Kinichi Ogata Design Office Co., Ltd.
His present activities are wide ranging and include; production of his original furniture, interior/exterior design of hospitals and other public/commercial buildings, design supervision of large-scale retail shops, renovation of residential buildings, and lectures.

1998 - 2007 SOSU MIHARAYASUHIRO, a fashion brand’s first exclusive stores in Japan (Tokyo) and overseas (Hong Kong)
2000 Notre Chambre, café (Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture)
2004 Romi--Unie Confiture, shop (Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture)
2007 bauhaus, Hong Kong’s major apparel maker’s store (Silvercord Shopping Centre, Kowloon, Hong Kong)
2009 SOSU INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD., offices (Sendagaya and Ryogoku, Tokyo)
Installation:
2009 Ukraine Pavilion, Venice Biennale, Italy (MIHARAYASUHIRO + OGATA)
2010 Snow Drops in Open Square organized by the Sendai Mediatheque (WOW, a visual design studio + OGATA)

2010 100% Design, London: Participated as member of a group.
2009 - OGATA N.Y. Exhibition at Brooklyn Flea, the largest flea market in New York
- TREND exhibition space at Maison&Objet: BEAN STOOL and BOX STOOL were exhibited.
- Sendai Design Collection 2009: OGATA’s art furniture KIRAMEKI (brilliance) exhibited.
2008 - Exhibition hall now! at Maison&Objet: Ogata’s first exhibit at this celebrated exhibition space known for the most exciting works shown at Maison&Objet.
